The Alzheimer Society of Washington:Sponsors- Educational programs: a day-long Spring Workshop and Fall Conference to educate family and professional caregivers.
- An annual Walk/Run to raise community awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and about the programs and services the Alzheimer Society of Washington provides.
Conducts- An Early Memory Loss Educational series plus a follow-up support group. The series allows persons with memory loss and family caregivers to learn about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementing illnesses and about supportive community services to help them in planning for the future.
- Community Memory Awareness Screenings for people who may be concerned about their memories.
Provides- Caregiver support groups - monthly meetings for caregivers to meet and discuss their caregiving situations. Members share coping strategies. Doctors sometimes refer caregivers to these groups.
- A library of books and videos that can be borrowed in person or by mail by our members.
- A toll-free number people can call for information (1- 800-493-3959).
- A newsletter sent to family and professional caregivers and those in the health care field three times a year.
- A web site (www.alzsociety.org) with Alzheimer information, issues of interest and upcoming events.
Organizes- An annual “Candlelighting Ceremony” in conjunction with the national Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s nationwide commemorative day to pay tribute to loved ones.
Recognizes- Special caregivers at our annual “Someone Who Cares” awards ceremony at our Fall Conference.
- Community members who have done outstanding work on behalf of the Alzheimer Society of Washington with the Ken King Community Service Award.
Participates- At the state, regional and local level to advocate for people with dementia and their caregivers.
These activities help people affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementing illnesses by raising awareness and providing information and services. | |
